Recently I’ve been seeing a lot of self deprecation online. Even though we have so many daily, weekly, monthly successes, we have a hard time “shouting about it”.
I think it has something to do with feeling like we’re bragging. But sharing good news needs to become a way forward in our culture, especially for women. And we need to stop doubting ourselves about it. Full stop.
My friends are an incredibly talented bunch, who deserve every ounce and bit of praise for their achievements. But often, we don’t even know about each others successes because we’re too humble, too self conscious or too self doubting to share.
What do you say about changing that?
I’m talking about celebrating the small from here on out. Whether that’s finding a random tenner in your handbag (score!) to getting that promotion you were after at work. Or maybe meeting a goal you have set for yourself. Finished your to-do list? Finally nailed that recipe that you’ve been working on perfecting? Whatever the success, it’s about time we start cheering each other on for what we’re doing.
So…
This week, I was featured in Blogosphere Magazine.
I’ve been having a sort of “low” week and when it arrived in the post I didn’t feel an initial celebratory impact. It was great, but I hadn’t told anyone about it and felt like I shouldn’t share the news.
But hold up. No, no, no. It’s a BIG. MASSIVE. DEAL. Yours truly was featured in an absolutely gorgeous, styled and smart magazine. Someone (Laura, from What’s Hot Blog) selected ME as one of her favourites and it’s a total pinch me moment.

So I decided to get over my chill and celebrate this victory properly, like any good English family would. Just embracing my adopted culture… with cake.
It was lucky for me that I was sent the new absolutely delicious Galaxy Ripple Celebration Cake chocolate cake. I’ve always been such a big fan of Galaxy chocolate bars. But this wasn’t a chocolate bar occasion – this calls for CAKE. And as someone who only saves sweet treats like these for special occasions, it tastes even better when you’re celebrating something!
And because I was feeling ~extra~ this was the perfect cake for the occasion. With a chocolate sponge, sandwiched and covered with Galaxy ganache frosting, topped with mini Galaxy Counters and shavings, and you guessed it, finished with a Galaxy Ripple. Simply put, this gal needed to celebrate.

We all need to celebrate our successes.
Why?
Because the more we celebrate and shout about our achievements, the more we can visualize and know what’s possible. We can make waves in business, in tech, finance, and in communicative culture. No matter what sort of path you’re on, you need to celebrate what you’re doing.
Even research conducted by Professors Dr. Robert A. Emmons and Dr. Michael McCullough (University of California Davis and University of Miami) shows that people who cultivate a daily attitude of celebration and gratitude have more energy, less stress and anxiety, are more likely to help others, exercise more frequently, sleep better, have improved physical health, and actually make greater progress toward achieving personal goals (academic, interpersonal and health-based).
Maybe I’m not always great at sleeping and exercising frequently but it can’t help but be a start.
So I say, it’s time to time to celebrate. What’s one thing this week that you did that you want to celebrate or shout from the rooftops about?
Now who wants to pass me another slice?
Kelly xx
