For so many of us, 2020 was meant to be the ultimate year of travel.
On my list was Italy and hopefully getting to Japan. And I truly would love to get myself on a beach holiday somewhere too. Now it’s looking like it might be quite a long time until we get to make plans like that again. So I decided it was time to get creative from home. How could I travel the world from my living room? Travel at home has never been so fun.
All you need is… food. Drinks. Films. Atmosphere. And certainly an open mind. As long as there’s a combination of all of the above, you have the perfect recipe for successful travel at home.
Here’s a little bit of inspiration for your next trip from your living room… let’s travel at home:

Aperitifs in Venice
Transport yourself to the sunny canals of Venice for the afternoon! What you’ll need to create the scene: Aperol Spritz, bruschetta, and some fancy sparkling water. Perhaps some olives and breadsticks too…! Best views of the city can be found from the film, The Tourist which is currently on Netflix. Saluti!

Drink wine and eat cheese at a café in Paris
The ultimate Parisian experience is sitting outside at a café with a glass of wine in hand. I rarely drink red wine, but Paris is the place where I embrace it wholeheartedly. Wine is often cheaper than water on the menus too. What you need to create your own Parisian café: a bottle of red wine, café chairs and table, a delicious cheese board and freshly baked baguette. Glimpse views of the city of love from the film, Midnight in Paris. Mon amour!

Go to a football game in Germany
We may be in quarantine times in a few places still around the world… but the Bundesliga is back! Get yourself in front of your TV on the weekend and pick a team to cheer on. Though now at the time of publishing this, plenty of sports are on their way back, so if you’re a fan, get involve. For the ultimate sports fan grab your favourite lager, baked pretzels (they are the best) and yes, we even cooked German sausage on the grill for the occasion. A little too over the top? Maybe but why not give travel at home your all.

A magical trip to the Wizarding World
So the world of Harry Potter may not actually exist in real life (seriously a shame) but you can find the closest thing at Universal Studios so I’m calling it a real place! So channel your inner Universal Studios and visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Make Butterbeer at home (I think I’ll do a blog post with the recipe soon), have Harry Potter film marathon and don’t forget to practice your Expecto Patronum! Bonus points for rock cakes (hint: upside down scones) and your fave Harry Potter memorabilia too.
PS when we can go out again, I have a handy guide to all the magical must dos at Universal Studios here.

Have a spot of afternoon tea in London
Gosh, I’ve been missing our actual home and life in England so much right now. So we decided to travel back to the capital for cups of tea, sandwiches, scones and treats for a complete classic afternoon tea. All from our living room of course. We even put on The Crown to get our royal fix too.
Where should we travel at home next? Our living room has definitely become so many places now. I’m thinking maybe a visit to New York City for brunch…
If anything, I hope these are some fun ways to inspire your time stuck inside and maybe even some great date night ideas too. Be sure to visit my Instagram to keep up to date with my travels… from home!
Lots of love,
Kelly x

There are tons of websites that are doing virtual tours of touristy places which I think is a great option too!

These are such amazing and creative ideas – I love it! I usually go to Italy every year, but this year I might have to take a leaf out of your book and bring Italy to me! xx
